The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has issued a rallying cry for national unity in the face of security threats, following the arrest of Bashir Hadeja, an individual allegedly involved in transnational crimes. NDYC National Coordinator Israel Uwejeyan emphasized the need for collective vigilance against forces that “seek to undermine our sovereignty.”
In a statement released yesterday, the youth organization praised Nigerian security agencies for their “unyielding commitment to upholding the law and protecting our citizens.” The NDYC highlighted the gravity of Hadeja’s alleged activities, which reportedly include arms trafficking, gold smuggling, and terrorism financing.
Uwejeyan urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action, stating, “We implore the administration not to release Hadeja under any circumstances until a comprehensive investigation is conducted and justice is fully served.”
The NDYC also raised concerns about the potential exploitation of public protests by criminal elements. They called for increased awareness among citizens to distinguish between legitimate dissent and manipulated unrest.
The youth group commended key security officials, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar, for their efforts. They urged the government to provide continued support and resources to combat evolving security threats.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the presidency regarding the NDYC’s statement.
